The Application Of Ultrasonic Technology

  • 2015-03-16

 Welding

Assembly by "Energy focuser". Essentially limited to « amorphous » thermoplastics. Welding is rapidly performed (less than 1 second), without additional material.

Spot welding

Particularly recommended for thermoformed parts lacking assembly profile, or for pieces with geometry and imposed conditions making the usual welding inoperative.

Continus welding

Applied to high-speed processes, it facilitates adaptation to the heightened cadences employed in the fields of packaging and non-woven textiles.

Riveting

The main advantage of this process is that it facilitates assembly of plastic parts differing in kind.

Flanging

It facilitates the « imprisoning » of a part within some completely different material through deformation of the latter.

Insertion

When metallic inserts are put into place through ultrasounds, this enables avoidance of the constraints due to duplicate molding, and it also heightens injection cadences and simplifies the manufacture of injection molds.

Metal weding

While metal materials are being assembled, the energy necessary to welding is communicated to the pieces to be welded in the form of mechanical vibrations. The pieces to be welded are placed between the sonotrode and the anvil. These 2 elements contain ridges that facilitate gripping and maintaining the lower piece in place for the anvil, and help to align the upper piece with the longitudinal movement of the sonotrode. By dint of friction, perpendicular pressure on the assembly surface provokes assembly through adherence of the two pieces. This process presents several advantages:

  • Excellent quality of welding
  • No additional materials
  • A clean, non-polluting process
  • Exceedingly short welding time
  • Excellent electrical conductibility
  • Exceedingly low level of energy consumption
  • No preliminary preparation

Food slicing

A titanium sonotrode vibrating 20000 times/second proceeds downwards and cuts the product. The ultrasonic vibration favors the « cutting » effect and prevents any fouling or gumming of the cutting blade, thereby limiting development of bacterial growths. Industrial slicing is readily applicable to chewy, friable or sticky products… The advantages of this process consist in:

  • Highly precise cutting allowing for likewise precise grammage of the slices
  • Product quality is preserved
  • Only minimal product loss
  • Appreciable productivity
