Use of ultrasonic metal spot welding machine

  • 2021-06-09
Thanks to the development of the digital age and the increasing demand for high-quality electronic products, metal connection technology has achieved long-term development-from traditional bolts, nails and even adhesive connections to today's ultrasonic metal welding.

What is ultrasonic metal welding?

Ultrasonic metal welding is a kind of "cold welding", which does not melt metal. It uses ultrasonic vibration to generate frictional motion between metals. The heat generated by friction quickly removes the oxide layer of metals (especially non-ferrous metals). On a very clean interface, the molecules are infinitely close to each other to create connections. That is, using the characteristics of ultrasonic high frequency (20-40Khz) and low amplitude vibration, making intermolecular connections between metals.

This connection principle is also suitable for welding different materials. For example, the welding of glass and hard metals, and the welding of steel and aluminum. There are also materials with high thermal conductivity characteristics, such as copper or aluminum.

Where is ultrasonic metal welding used?

There are many applications for this technology, especially in industries that use complex, delicate or tiny components.

New energy automobile industry. Welding of tabs on lithium battery packs of popular electric vehicles, welding of wiring harnesses and wiring harnesses, and welding of wiring harnesses and terminals in automobiles. Such welding materials are often copper or aluminum with high conductivity, so traditional resistance welding cannot be used. In addition, ultrasonic metal welding has a small heat-affected area and is clean and free of sparks. It is a very safe welding process.

Medical industry. The most typical application is to solder pins on integrated circuits in medical equipment. The process does not require glue or adhesives, only the body material is used for connection. For example, pacemakers used to treat patients and sensors implanted in the body. In addition, ultrasonic welding is also widely used in the process of manufacturing venous catheters, blood/gas filters, dialysis machines, valves and filters.

Electronics and computer industry. The connection process of wires and circuits on microelectronic components is ultrasonic welding, which is applied to products such as chips, motors, capacitors, flash memory, microprocessors, and transformers. The entire welding process welds thin metals (usually aluminum or copper) to thick materials, seamlessly connecting wires and circuits. It can effortlessly connect the circuits on the circuit board, which is very suitable for the smart phone and computer industries.

Aerospace industry. When manufacturing engine components, non-ferrous metal materials such as aluminum are welded to steel. After welding, the components have high drawing strength, qualified size and beautiful appearance. It can also meet the requirements of the sealing performance and impact resistance of the sealed cabin after welding.
